Some students ask more information about Writers Workshop(WW). You can find further information at http://www.cws.illinois.edu/workshop/
Let me briefly explain how the WW is going. WW has four places on campus; you can refer to the links below:
Locations
In order to get the service from WW, you're supposed to create an account. Walk into the WW, and say to a person sitting in the front "I'd like to create an account for WW." Then, you'll be receiving a number which would be your ID for WW. You'll be using the number when you make an appointment. Make sure that you cannot make an appointment online; you need to make a phone call to book the service for WW(yes, it's old-fashioned!) WW is offering free assistance twice a week (50 mins for each) for every student, and you can brainstorm, review, proofread essays with writing experts. Here's more information:
Writers Workshop
The Writers Workshop, part of the Center for Writing Studies, provides free writing assistance for University of Illinois students, faculty, and staff from all disciplines and at all stages of the writing process. Discuss your writing with consultants who are experienced writers and teachers of writing. Call 333-8796 (or drop-in) to set up a 50-minute session at one of the four Workshop locations. Please see our appointment and schedule pages for more information.
Sessions are interactive. Through close reading and questions, your consultant will help you express and articulate your ideas. Your consultant can work with you at all stages of the writing process, from brainstorming to writing to revising. Consultants will not proofread your paper for you but will help you learn to find your grammatical and mechanical errors and correct them on your own. Bring a copy of your writing, or just your ideas, to the session. If you have a class assignment, then please bring a copy of the assignment sheet as well.
The Writers Workshop maintains a list of Editors for Hire, most of whom are current University of Illinois English Department instructors who have expressed an interest in doing this type of work for an hourly/per project rate. This should be negotiated with the individual.
We look forward to seeing you at the Workshop!
